Ex#23

Well actually I haven't!! I was playing around with image chef and realised after a lot of errors that I wasn't registered and therefore couldn't access the site!! However my brain did eventually click into action and voila - came up with my 'award' picture. Hope you like the picture of me sitting in my flower garden. I don't have my honey pot with me as I didn't want to appear as if that is all I ever do - eat honey!!!!
In some way I feel relieved the course is over but I will miss seeing what new sites and activities I have to discover. I certainly feel a lot more confident trying out different modes of accessing information. I am enjoying facebook and dare I say it - podcasts!! Image chef is affiliated with my space I have since found out and that is something I didn't know before.
I don't think I will be using everything I have learnt as I don't have to use the computer as such at work. Well, at least not yet!! I have enjoyed writing in my blog and I believe I will keep it active if only to save for my grandchildren to read one day!!!!!! Not that I have any yet but I am forever hopeful. I wonder if I could save my blog to the memory stick should I receive one??
I will miss emailing the friendly web 2.0 team. They have been very supportive especially when I have grumped and moaned and got frustrated!! Thank you team. I think my favourite sites would be the ones like image chef where I could create something. The searchrolls are handy to record all my books or is that rollyo. Oh dear I am getting a bit confused. I am going to go back over my blog posts slowly and just take my time to have a look at sites properly. I have felt I needed to rush to get the exercises done before the next week but now I don't have to so I am much more relaxed. Everything I learnt has been a surprise for me as I haven't encountered these sites before, only heard of some of them.
That's it. I have done my dash. Cheerio and lots of lovely honey kisses to you all.

Ex 19

Well alright I have looked a bit more into podcasts!! But this time i googled podcasts and went into BBC Radio 5 live site. It was interesting in that it had the story of the day. That was lovely to listen to. Here is the URL if you want to listen too. http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/fivelive/5lsotd/rss.xml It's about Christine and Chester. And here is another one on book reviews and interviews with the authors. Great site!http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/fivelive/books/rss.xml This one has definitely gone to my bloglines.
Maybe now that I know what I am doing I might enjoy podcasts a bit more!

Ex #22

I think social networking in libraries would be great especially for teens. They are always on the computer and what better way to communicate with them than through sites such as myspace or facebook. Teens are inherently lazy (personal opinion here!) and if it means that they don't have to 'go' anyway to gather information then surely they will love being a 'friend' of the library. As teens are also known to do a lot of grunting as opposed to speaking social networking would be wonderful for them as they wouldn't have to utter a single word!!!

Ex#21

Well I have spent too long playing around with facebook. I had a look at the other sites but I found the facebook one the most interesting and easy to use. I can see why so many people have joined. Now nothing will get done around here! I may even have to get my own laptop so I can have exclusive use of facebook!! LOL Not likely!!!

Facebook

Oh dear I have spent a lot of time becoming addicted to facebook!!!! Now the dinner is probably overcooked and the children will not be impressed. Oh dear oh dear. I have had a lot of fun though!
here they are. My favourite group. I play their CDs all the time while driving in the car. Their songs can be very haunting at times. I am having fun with this exercise.
http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=409176669&albumID=0&imageID=341832 I have a photo of my favourite group Il Divo. I found it in My Space. Actually I cheated a bit and used my daughters account as I couldn't face signing up for one more thing!!

Ex 20

I have had a look at ebooks. I am so old fashioned that I like to have a book in my hand to read along with a cup of coffee and a muffin (a honey muffin that is!) . I tried to fine To Kill a Mockingbird by Haprper Lee which is one of my all time favourites but I couldn't find it. I would have thought it would be a 'classic'. So then I chose The Railway Children and that was there on the Gutenburg site. I downloaded that but was unsure about which format to choose. I didn't really understand what they were so just chose any one. It downloaded ok and I had a wee read but as I said I can't quite cope with reading a 'book' on a computer. Doesn't even have the right smell!!!

Ex#19

I am fed up with podcasts. They are so boring and I don't think I will EVER use them. Most don't have feeds anyway and I have given up trying to work out how to include them into my bloglines.
There that's my gripe for a beautiful Sunday afternoon!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXy35Bvnq18 I was trying to embed this video but couldn't do it. How does one do it? Do you the reader know? I though this video was great fun and I felt like I was there and joining in! Good idea to rent out laptops. This video is also good if you want to practise your French!! I think these sorts of video would be great for creating infomercials about the library and its resources.

Wow. i loved the clip on You Tube of the 60s and 70s music. All those great tunes bringing back lots of memories. They were good times.
I also had a look at Twitter because I hadn't heard of it before. It has always been facebook this and facebook that in our family! I quite like the name twitter but don't know how it would be implemented into a library setting. I also don't know if I could possibly join another site!!!! I would never get anything else done and would become computer square eyes. Not too good for a Teddy Bear!
Games and entertainment is another fun site. I would love to have the time to play all those games. Ho hum. Maybe one day. I don't think this site would be valuable to use in the library. You would never get patrons off the computer!!If you want to relax though this is the place to go.

web2.0 awards

I have enjoyed searching through all those sites. I have had a look at the geneology sites and was tempted to sign up for the heritage one but ....another password to remember! The trouble is I often leave it too long before I visit it again and then I can't remember which password, email address or user name that I used!! How do people find the time to do all these things!!

Oops I sent that document twice. Didn't know whether the first one had gone or not. I was too quick and didn't wait for the pop-up notice. I think it is called impatience!!

Just playing around!! What shall i do now. Um. Colour the words I think. But how? Well i hope to find out soon. laughing Hey this is fun. I wonder if I can save this as i really have to go and get the dinner ready as my son is joining us and I also have to send an email to my sister in Australia. Searchrolls

Yes I believe I have got the hang of searchrolls now. I know how to do it but of course my befuddled brain can't remember many of the sites I visit. However the virtualoceania one is nice and I like it!!

Rollyo

http://www.rollyo.com/editroll.html?sid=456811 Here is the url to my searchroll. Or at least i think it is!!

Searchroll

I am not entirely sure how this searchroll works. I will have to look at it further. But right now I am tired so I am going to sign off and have a cup of tea!!

Library Thing

http://www.librarything.com/addbooks Here is the url to my library thing catalogue. It is a neat idea and I must try and transfer all the bookclub books I have read to it. It will be a handy reference. I notice though that any 'English' authors don't have any followers in America.

This was fun playing around with image generators. I too used imagechef. It was easy to navigate and very straightforward.

Oops. It was sandbox after all. Deary me!
Actually i think it wasn't wetpaint but sandbox where I was invited to join. I am getting rather muddled!

Wetpaint.

I had fun exploring wetpaint. I was initially invited to join by another blogger but alas I now can't remember who that was! I must have brain drain! I think I will use wetpaint in the future as it is easy and entertaining to use.

Wikis

I am not sure about Wikis. They may be 'quick' but how accurate are they if anybody can add or delete information. How helpful would it be in a library to information that is not entirely reliable.
However in saying all that I don't really know enough about wikis to be confident in using them. I have not had any occasion as yet to use them but I know my children use wikipedia a lot and I have looked at that site now and then to gain general information.
So much to learn, so little time!! Poor teddy bear.

Away from the icebergs

Just read the article'away from the icebergs'. Heavens. One day i can see myself without a job as everyone will be doing their own research and reading via the computer! I will be very sad to see hands on books disappear. I hope they don't. You can't cuddle up with a computer or digital whatever in bed or sofa. it just doesn't have the same 'feel' about it.! I wonder often just where all this thirst and implemation for new technology will end. What a long way information gathering has come even since my childhood and that is not that long ago I have to say!!! Will there be a burnout of young minds trying to cope with all they have to know to be able to keep up with the 'world'? Sometimes I fear for their communication skills with 'real' people as they journey into infinity with their computers.

Ex #10

I am now up to exercise 10. Hooray. But.....all that I have to read. Wow. I can't even understand what on earth those writers are on about!!! Help. It will I think take me a long time to decipher everything.
Bring back the 'country house library with the comfortable leather chairs, the smooth coffee and the delectable taste of a shot of brandy'!!! Forget the cigar aroma. We all know now what that does to our lungs!.
Give me a 'real' book anyday. oh dear my age is showing. Back to the computer reading.

Technorati

Well, I have played around in the technorati site. I have discovered that by typing in 2.0 on the home page, articles about learning issues and disabilities come up but when I go into blogs I get all sorts of blogs on the web 2.0 programme that I am currently doing. It is great to know that so many people out there are doing the same thing!! Ifeel part of a community.
I have also 'claimed' my blogspot. It is mine forever now. Yippee!!! I will have fun entertaining the world with it. Yeah right!

delicious again

Stll looking around this site. Even made a comment on smittenkitchen.com.Tis is fun but I will have to limit myself on the computer. I could be here all day!!

delicious

This site is very interesting and I have set up my own account. I found a 'delicious' recipe for a peanut butter chocolate cake at the smitten kitchen.com site. Yummy.

feeds

Well I tried again and I got into bloglines and found hundreds of feeds. but they all seem to be american. How do I find NZones. Have I even completed this exercise correctly.????

oh dear

Now that I am up to exercise 7 I am not totally sure what I have to do! I have looked at some feeds but now I can't find them. What am I supposed to do with them?? How to I gain access to them. Oh dear. I will have to try again. I am so slow with all this information overload I will never finish the programme and then all will be lost!!! Help~!

Technology

I love new gadgets. However i only like them if they are pretty simple to use and have just what i need. I have a cell phone but it is very basic and does not have a camera or the internet or music attached. I only have one so I can keep track of the children but alas it has become more like them keeping track of me!!! My phone bill is large due to phone calls to my cell from home wanting to know where I am and what's for dinner! Grr.

If anyone clicks on to the link posted on Wed 6th you will find the card that I made. It is actually a photo of part of my garden that I call 'Poets' Corner'. The garden is meant to have all the flowers of the poets growing in it! I haven't quite got that far yet!
I also haven't worked out how to post the actual photo to my blog. I have managed to work out the yellow flower photo. I am proud of myself for doing that!!!!!

image from flickr

I have given up trying to upload the picture in my previous post. I cannot work out how to do it but at least I have the site to click on to so i can see the picture. I like this picture. It is very well done. It was taken in the year of my 50th birthday and reminds me perhaps of my downward spiral from hereon in??!!! Lol. I wonder if you are allowed text language in a blog? Back to the photo. It has clean lines and a no clutter look. I like its simplicity and imagery. I think I will look at it often.

Friday, July 25, 2008

It's a beautiful day today. But alas no one is talking to me as I don't know why I am not yet part of the participants blog!! Will have to enquire. Anyway it is quite nice talking to myself as I don't receive any cheeky replies!!
Also today i have managed to get yesterday's cryptic crossword out all by myself well that is with the help of dictionaries. I am very proud of myself because I am just learning how to do that sort of crossword.

Thursday, July 24, 2008

Actually I have just worked out how!! What I do worry about though is the prospect of viruses and how they might infect my computer through all this web searching.
Help I am stuck. I don't know how to add a comment to another blog. I guess if I try and try I will discover how but until then I am going around in circles. I could always get one of my children to show me but that rather defeats the purpose!! Oh dear.

Teddy's toothache.

Hello everyone this is Teddy Bear. I have a toothache. I can chew on one side only. Looks like I will have to have lots of honey!
